Almost every comment I see is anticipating Sunday, and indeed the whole later history of Christianity, warts (by which I might well mean<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theopedia.com\/penal-substitutionary-atonement\"> PSA<\/a>) and all.<\/p>\n<p>But if you&#8217;re reading a story and really entering into it, you need to suspend disbelief &#8211; and if you&#8217;ve read it before, you need to try to forget that you know what&#8217;s coming next. Only that way can you really feel this part of the story. I was therefore happy to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peteenns.com\/sunday-is-not-always-a-comin\/?utm_content=buffer40d4f&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">Pete Enns blog<\/a> about this point. Good Friday is a time when we should, if we are doing it right, be feeling apparently irretrievable loss, and empathising with the irretrievable losses of others.<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, today is the day when, if at no other time, we can think <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/God_is_dead\">&#8220;God is dead&#8221;<\/a> and explore the ramifications of an interesting theology, if not the concept that maybe, just maybe, Elie Wiesel was right <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Night_(book)\">when he wrote<\/a> &#8220;Behind me, I heard the same man asking:\u00a0<i>Where is God now?\u00a0<\/i>And I heard a voice within me answer him:\u00a0<i>\u00a0&#8230; Here He is\u00a0\u2013 He is hanging here on this gallows&#8221;.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Today, if we are truly with Jesus on his journey,<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harrowing_of_Hell\"> we are in Hell<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a complaint about much that is posted on Good Fridays.
